The Pakistani-American community Saturday celebrated the opening of a new Pakistani Consulate in Chicago. Jehangir Karamat, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, and Mayor Daley were on hand to inaugurate the offices at 333 N. Michigan. The consulate will serve Pakistanis in six Midwestern states, home to 60,000 to 100,000 Pakistanis, said Consul Aitzaz Ahmed. In Chicago, that community is concentrated in Rogers Park and West Rogers Park around Devon Avenue, as well as in suburbs such as Bolingbrook and Schaumburg.
