Pakistani Golf Duo Creates History by Reaching World Cup Finals

Pakistani Golfers Muhammad Shabbir and Muhammad Munir have made golfing history for their country by reaching the finals of World Cup Golf in Malaysia. The have claimed the third and final berth in the Asian qualifying tournament. A country better known for its cricketers than golfers, earned a dream appearance at the Seri Selangor Golf Club yesterday. The unheard of Pakistani duo shot a superb three-under-par 68 in the final round foursomes at Seri Selangor Golf Club to finish third at the Asian qualifier, which was won by pre-tournament favourites Singapore. Pakistan’s golf community erupted into celebration when the national team qualified for the Omega Mission Hills World Cup for the first time. While Singapore, Philippines and Pakistan are set to be in the company of the world’s best in the World Cup later in China in November. Pakistan’s golf officials were delighted. ‘It is great news for Pakistan golf,’ Asad Khan, a member of the Pakistan Golf Federation, told IANS. ‘It is another proof that golf is the only sport in Pakistan that is on the road to progress.’ Muhammad Shabbir and Muhammad Munir have now etched their names in the history books when they guided Pakistan to their first World Cup with a superb display in the four-day event
