Toyota Motor Corp will start local production and sales of its IMV global strategic vehicle in Pakistan as early as this year, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, citing company President Katsuaki Watanabe. The business daily said Pakistan will be the 10th country in which the world’s second-largest automaker has set up a manufacturing base for the IMV. Toyota also began producing it in Vietnam last month, the report said. The report did not provide how many vehicles the company plans to produce. In 2005, IMV global sales reached 460,000 units. The carmaker expects sales in 2006 to hit 700,000 units, according to the newspaper.
