So when friends and family lavished him with compliments about his culinary skills and suggested he and wife Rukshana open up a restaurant, the Pakistan-born Corona resident decided he would do just that. The couple married 21 years ago in Pakistan, a union arranged by family, as was the custom. Khalid was born in Multan and Rukshana in Lahore. “We cook a different way,” she said. “In India, they are vegetarian. No meat. We eat meat.” She said she tries to get back to Pakistan often to keep the cuisine and traditions handed down through the generations alive for her children.
