‘Lahore Road’ Creates Jokes and Furor in Canadian Town
Is it an offensive name? Some people in a new subdivision in southeast Markham think so. And they asked council to do something about Lahore Road. Others like it, pointing out it’s the name of a city in Pakistan. “People laugh and make sarcastic remarks when they hear this street name,” Anthony Ferdandes told council members at Tuesday’s meeting. The street should carry the name Cedarwood after a neighbourhood school, he suggested.
