Pakistani classical singers enjoy strong following in India

A few days ago, a party was hosted to launch Daawat-e-Zaika, a Pakistani food festival at Hotel Marine Plaza.

Co-hosts Pakistan International Airlines gifted packets containing CDs of popular Pakistani artistes like Mehdi Hassan, Farida Khanum and Iqbal Bano. Over the years, Pakistan has had some extraordinary singers. Certain artistes have excelled in the field of ghazals, geets, Sufiana music and traditional folk music, much before pop music became big there. In stores across India, albums of most Pakistani artistes in this field are available.

Besides Hassan, Khanum and Bano, one finds sufficient quantities of Ghulam Ali, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Abida Parveen…
