Cellular market continues to get a boost

The cellular market across Pakistan continues to see a rush in its demand, eversince the two cardinal GSM operators, Mobilink and U-fone, announced to drop roaming charges for its subscribers.

The Mobilink – the largest mobile service provider – went one step ahead and announced to remove long distance charges too.

German Firm Shows Interest In Manufacturing Cell-phones In Pak

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Siemens Pakistan, Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui, while speaking at the launching of new models in 65 series in Pakistan at a ceremony held here Monday. He praised the economic programmes attained by Pakistan and said that the country’s future is bright. The Siemens Chief further stated that keeping in view the country’s economic progress, a decision would be made by his company regarding setting up of a plant for manufacturing mobile phones in Pakistan.

He pointed out that Siemens Pakistan is one of the largest electrical and electronic company which is registered locally and that it was now expending its presence in the consumer market. Sohail Wajahat said the company has embarked on developing a new concept whereby the household appliances could be operated by the mobile phones as well. Building Pakistan’s VoIP Network

Nortel Networks Corp. said Monday that it received a four-year contract from Warid Telecom to build a voice-over-Internet Protocol network in Pakistan.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed. Warid Telecom is privately held by a group of investors from the United Arab Emirates.
