Khan on the Fast Track

“He doesn’t know politics and it is not his cup of tea, he should focus on bat and ball only”.

I heard a well-known politician ridiculing in frustration on a TV show and I was thinking as if he was saying that “We are the ones who set the rules of game and politics is our property, and you have no permission to break-in to our domain and slide the political ground from under our feet”

I recall many years back Imran Khan acknowledged that he had no experience in politics. “But then neither have I any experience in loot and plunder,” he said. (The New York Times April 26, 1996)

Since then he had travelled on a 15 year long bridge to enter into the political valley of experience where the sweat dreams of his opponents are now turned into nightmares.

Imran Khan, an Oxford graduate, is the charm of Pakistanis these days, exhibiting his unfathomable experience and astute moves like a Grand Chess Master taking his opponents off the hook at each step, keep them wondering about his next move and gradually pushing them to the ultimate checkmate.

Despite of being seasoned politicians, harassment is clear on the faces of his adversaries as well as in their reactive moves committing deadly mistakes one after the other.

When Khan’s movement started its journey on April 26, 1996 and reached its 1st impressive destination of Minar-e-Pakistan on October 30, 2011 the people of Pakistan beginning to understand 1st time the language he was speaking for so many years, the language of nations self esteem and transformation.

Their eyes were glittering with hope that is lightened within the dark clouds of shame, pessimism and helplessness the nation is passing through. His audience and gatherings have grown steadily and mammoth. People are hailing him with a hope unseen in Pakistan in years.

Leading the “Justice Caravan” with his charisma, Khan is on the fast track promising to cleanse Pakistan of corruption and establish a regime of “fresh and dedicated faces,”.

The captain, with his elegant style of choreographic campaigning, is making a worth inevitable. Majority of Pakistanis believe that he can break the musical tune of “going to Jerusalem” game of “family political empires” of Pakistan.

As the captain is achieving momentum and is mounting up harassment on Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari taking offensive of their corruption and lies to their backyard, he has build-up a significant and enormous reputation of a crowd-pleasing eloquence, blending with cricketing analogies to ridicule the rotten “family political corporations”.

Unquestionably the “Lack of experience in loot and plunder” is the biggest advantage the Charming Khan has over his opponents.

if i am not mistaken 2 governments were being overthrown on this very issue on corruption. how impatient we are as a nation. we expect to win our matches not by taking singles and building partnerships but by boom boom afridis sixes and fours. thats why democracy has never taken roots in this country because we dont have the temperament. we just expect some good general or a hero in the shape of imran khan to come along and do some quick fixes for the country.

Hansa, to use a cricketing analogy, we took singles during the last 60 odd-years. We did it in the 1990s with the Butto/Sharif partnership but now it’s the last over and we need to hit a last-ball six. Pakistan has reached a boiling point and if we have another option apart from the corrupt, hereditary politicians then why not go for it.
