Lithuanian Folk Ensemble Excites Pindi College

The song and dance troupe belonged to the Kaunas University, which is the largest technical institution in the Baltic States and second largest institution of higher education in Lithuania. Members of the ensemble danced to the tunes of their traditional folk instruments consisting of ‘kankles’ — one of the oldest folk instruments in Lithuania. A dance troupe member said that in the past, ‘kankles’ have had many forms and sizes, and a varying number of strings. But now it has become a concert instrument, the ensemble plays not only the modern ‘kankles’ instrument but also antique varieties originating from different ethnographic regions of Lithuania.
