Japanese Couple Weds Pakistani Style in Islamabad

A lively, atmosphere, complete with ‘dhol dhamaka,’ marked the marriage ceremony of Keije, son of Mr and Mrs Hidetoshi Ishigame, and Hanako, daughter of Mr and Mrs Yamamoto. Then began the fun part of the wedding! Dressed in Pakistani costumes — turban and ‘sherwani’ for the groom, a blue ‘gharara’ suit for the bride — they were preceded by a smartly turned out police band; garlanded by family and friends, then showered with rose petals by Japanese children before sitting down for the rest of the proceedings. As the police band played, a few Pakistani men did the ‘bhangra’ and were joined by the groom, cheered on by his colleagues and his bride.
