U.S. Paper Opens Islamabad Bureau

Newsday announced today that is has opened a new bureau in Islamabad, Pakistan. James Rupert has been named bureau chief. He will cover other regions in the area including Afghanistan, Iran, and India. Previously, Rupert was Newsday’s deputy foreign editor, based in the paper’s Melville, N.Y. headquarters. He speaks French, Russian, Arabic, and Persian. ‘Pakistan is a vital location in a vital region, which is currently under-covered by the American news media…
