State-of-the-art Tracking System for Railways Soon

China has promised to send 65 new freight wagons to the Pakistan Railways (PR) on November 26 while Germany is providing the PR with state-of-the-art track sensing technology, sources told Daily Times on Monday.

The new lot of wagons is part of a shipment of 400 freight wagons to Pakistan from China under an earlier contract. Till now 135 freight wagons have already been received. The agreement also includes 1,300 passenger wagons. All wagons are being built and fully assembled by a Chinese firm.

Sources also said that the railways was also considering a Rs 5.7 billion proposal to renovate, monitor and protect the 13,650 bridges and 8,000 kilometres of track across Pakistan.

They said that the induction of new freight wagons would boost freight business while the new technology being acquired from Germany, that senses track condition five kilometres ahead of scheduled trains, will prevent derailing accidents. Sources said that the decisions were taken in a meeting between PR operations staff…
