Ode to Lahore in colour

An exhibition titled ‘Ode to Lahore in Colour’ featuring pastel works and drawings by Aboo opened here at Croweaters Gallery on Monday. Over 20 works are on display at the show. Among these, ‘Summer heat,’ in pencil, ‘Spring time,’ in pastel and ‘Long and winding path of N Sharif Park’, were exceptionally dazzling.

The artworks on display ranged from Rs 5,000 to Rs 40,000. Aboo has dedicated the exhibition to the late Prof Anna Molka Ahmed, without whose motherly and liberal education, he said, he would not have been what he is.

Two PhD students from the Punjab University Fine Arts Department, Ambreen Zafar and Amna Mirza, commenting on the exhibition said the artist had carried out some wonderful pastel work keeping in view that pastel is a difficult medium. “Wherever the artist has used rich colours one finds a commercial touch in those art works, but his pastel work is totally based on technique.” The artist was not present at the exhibition to comment, but an accompanying written piece expressed the nostalgia…
