Punjab Plans ‘Sports City’ Near Jallo Park Resort

The [Punjab] government plans to construct a multipurpose 'Sports City' over 500 kanals at Rakh Chabeel near Jallo Park for hosting large functions such as the Horse and Cattle Show.

Sources told Daily Times on Thursday that the government felt the need for a stadium because it had to pay the army a large sum for holding the Horse and Cattle Show at Fortress Stadium. “The Punjab government decided to build its own stadium instead of paying huge amounts to the army. Moreover, the Fortress Stadium does not have the capacity to hold large crowds,” sources said.

The stadium is being designed with facilities of international standards so the National Games and the SAF games can also be held there. The government also hopes to hold the Asian Games there in the coming years. Sports facilities at Gaddafi Stadium and in surrounding areas are also being built at a quickened pace so they can host large events. “The idea is to provide modern facilities to the people in the expanding Lahore city. Another large facility will be built on Raiwind Road after the completion of this project,” sources said…
